Luca Daum
Printmaker
I was born in Genoa (Italy) on January 6, 1962.
I enrolled at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa, where I studied Painting with Mario Moronti and Engraving with Giannetto Fieschi and Nicola Ottria. I graduated in Painting in 1990.
I further refined my training by attending and working in various artisan workshops in Florence, Milan, Alessandria, and Brescia, where I learned the arts of Chasing and Repoussé, and Burin Engraving in applied arts.
For many years, I combined my artistic production with professional work as an Engraver and Chaser of noble and precious metals, and in the field of restoration, I specialized in Silver and ancient Weapons.
Currently, I am a faculty member in the Art Graphics course at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa.
I favor burin engraving, although my passion for Graphics has led me to explore and deepen all engraving techniques, including intaglio, woodcut, wood engraving, lithography, and screen printing.
In recent years, I have designed, experimented with, and refined two new technical approaches that I currently teach in my courses at the Academy: Scrape Engraving in intaglio and relief, and Chased Graphic for the creation of plates with plastic reliefs to be used in simultaneous color printing with inks of different viscosities.
Writers who have written about me include: Dario Ferrin, Remo Palmirani, Mario Chianese, Egisto Bragaglia, Giancarlo Torre, Marco Fragonara, David Schorr, Ada Donati, Rod Dreher, and others.
I live in Bogliasco, a charming village in the province of Genoa, bordered by the waters of the Golfo Paradiso.
My studio is in Genoa.
